Celebrating America's 250th Birthday: Home, Family & Simple Traditions
Two hundred and fifty years.
It's amazing to stop and think about everything our country has experienced over the past two and a half centuries. Generations of families have gathered around kitchen tables, celebrated holidays together, weathered difficult seasons, and created traditions that have been passed from one generation to the next.
As I celebrated the Fourth of July this year, I found myself thinking less about the history books and more about the simple moments that make this country feel like home.
The smell of homemade biscuits and gravy filling the kitchen.
Coffee brewing before the rest of the house wakes up.
Neighborhood kids riding bikes and having lemonade stands
Stars painted on the lawn
A swimming pool full of splashing and smiles.
The sound of neighbors enjoying cookouts and fireworks as the sun begins to set.
These are the moments I treasure most.
At Living Simply Nourished, I spend a lot of time talking about nourishing our bodies with real food, balancing blood sugar, supporting digestion, and creating healthy habits. But today reminded me that nourishment is about so much more than what's on our plate.
It's also about slowing down.
Making memories.
Cooking recipes that have been shared through generations.
Spending time with the people we love.
Getting outside.
Laughing until our cheeks hurt.
Those things nourish us, too.
I believe healthy living should never mean missing out on life's celebrations. In fact, I think the healthiest life is one where wholesome food, meaningful traditions, and joyful moments all have a place.
As America celebrates 250 years, I'm grateful for the freedom to gather with family, prepare meals from scratch, enjoy the beauty around us, and build a life centered on faith, gratitude, and simple pleasures.
Those are values worth celebrating every day—not just on the Fourth of July.
Wherever this Independence Day finds you, I hope you've had time to slow down, share a meal, soak up some sunshine, and make memories with the people you love.
Happy 250th Birthday, America.
Here's to honoring the past, appreciating the present, and looking forward to the generations still to come.
Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
